Welcome to Mom's place. This part is sort of "Terms of Use" or "disclaimers" or "snarky stuff that I'd like to only have to say once."
Here goes: like every other blogger out there who is not using a free hosting service, I'm paying for this site. Not much, but it's still my money and thus my rules. I don't plan to put up with any behavior on the blog that I wouldn't tolerate in my home, so Behave.
I've just opened up comments at the start of 2005, and if you post crap/spam/etc., I will ban you in a flat minute. If you want to say you disagree with an opinion of mine, ok. Don't be abusive. Don't put your doctoral thesis into the comments, however; if you have that much backup for your disagreement, GET YOUR OWN BLOG and post your lengthy rebuttal there and just ping me with a trackback. If you want to start up a longish dialog, please email me instead of commenting.
If you think my topics are boring, please use the links to go over to The Ecosystem maintained by NZBear, and hit one of the other 18000+ blogs listed there, and find one where the topics are more to your liking. I'm glad you're here, but my opinion is, reading a blog is like marrying someone: don't expect to change what you see day in, day out, just because you formed a link/exchanged an email with the host. Come back a couple of times, and if you still like what you're reading, then you'll probably continue to be satisfied over the longer haul.
Cheers!

Born 40+ years ago..... Born in Mississippi to parents from Mississippi (mom) and Tennessee (dad). Navy brat. Childhood spent in San Diego, Corpus Christi (TX), Jacksonville (FL) and Memphis (TN). Graduated high school in Memphis (valedictorian) and went off the Bear Bryant Football Academy in Tuscaloosa for further educatin'. I'm old enough that Coach Bryant was still the coach when I graduated, and yes, I did get to attend his last game, thoughtfully played at the Liberty Bowl in what I think of as my hometown.
Bachelor's and Master's degress in math, with a minor in Computer Science. Ph.D. in Management Information Systems (MIS) recently acquired, via an on-line university: but, lest you fear I paid for a sheepskin from some diploma factory, fear not: between the M.A. degree and the doctorate, I earned 42 hours of credits at brick-and-mortar universities (So. Methodist U. in Dallas and U.North Texas in Denton). I got the doctorate partially because it felt silly to have that many graduate credits just going to waste. I'm overeducated, to say the least.
Never have been much of a "jock", but did help establish the U of A's fencing club. I liked fencing, but had less and less time after my sophomore year, and so gave it up. I did a lot of adult jazz dance classes after I started working (J. David Kirby's old school that was near the Dr. Pepper HQ in Dallas), then decided to take up martial arts. After some research I ended up in kenjutsu, in which I have a renshi menkyo. I met my husband through our mutual instructor, and we still train/teach. I've added kayaking (flat water, ocean) to my list of fun physical activities, too. I don't do anything that requires jumping out of, or off of, anything more than 6 feet up in the air.
Japanese martial arts, vampire fiction, science fiction, falconry, televised sports, 'Bama football, Sam Raimi movies, sushi (but not uni - gross!)
